Description in English: This work delves INSERT INTO the possibility, the realities and the desires of the continental revolution in its first moment, between 1790 and 1830. Two issues are noteworthy in Playing with fire. One is that the author, unlike a good part of traditional historiography and even of many contemporary scholars, considers that the cycle of his study starts with the Haitian revolution. The other, closely linked to that, is the inclusion in his view of the Spanish Antilles, whose development during those years cannot be understood apart from the war and political process that shook Tierra Firme: the islands were not outside the general process, although neither in Cuba nor in Puerto Rico was the emancipatory option open.The book is based on a wide and very up-to-date bibliography, which has evidently provided the author with information and criteria assimilated in an intelligent and creative way by him. It is enjoyable to read, despite the fact that the work stands out for the weight and rigor of the historical analysis, and in its finished exposition that turns each of the seven chapters INSERT INTO true essays that can be read satisfactorily separately, without It detracts from the coherence of the book as a whole.
