Description in English: In the lagoon complex of the Ciénaga Grande de Santa Marta there are two large marshes: the Ciénaga Grande and the Pajaral Swamp, which is part of the Pajaral lagoon complex, where the palafitic village of Nueva Venecia, in the district of Sitionuevo, in the Department of Magdalena, is located. Before Nueva Venecia existed, there was a hamlet in the Pajaral swamp called Las Trojas de Gálvez, located near the mangrove swamp. The fishermen of this hamlet founded the village of El Morro in 1847 and left it. The name of the palafito was changed due to the influence of Ismael Ambrosio Moreno, who, after showing the inhabitants of the village pictures of the city of Venice, Italy, decided to adopt the name Nueva Venecia. Its inhabitants, however, when referring to the town, identify it as Nueva Venecia or El Morro. The economy of Nueva Venecia revolves around fishing, with the atarraya and the canoe being indispensable implements to carry out the work as well as to move around the resort.
