Description in English: The second half of the twentieth century saw the emergence of the economies that, albeit with changes, currently distinguish the Caribbean and Central American region. Export agriculture, which had been predominant in those territories, entered INSERT INTO a definitive crisis during the recession of 1930, and after World War II industrialization processes began with uneven results, coinciding, moreover, with major political and social events (independence or revision of the political status of the British or French Antilles, the Cuban and Nicaraguan revolutions, movements against racial discrimination). At the end of the century, the irregular growth guided by manufacturing production began to be replaced by another based on the tertiary, tourism and financial sectors. In this book, renowned international specialists analyze this period through a variety of case studies: Puerto Rico (part of the United States since 1898) Dominican Republic, Haiti, Cuba (socialist economy from 1959), the territories of the United Kingdom or independent from it in the area and the Caribbean region of Colombia. It also includes a general reflection on the Colombian Caribbean and Central America and their historical similarities.
