Description in English: This book shows how the emergence of the Canal del Dique and the consolidation of the Rio Grande de la Magdalena, as the main fluvial artery at the time of the Colony, noticeably affect the configuration of an exceptional sub-region: the Lower Magdalena. The appearance of the fluvial ports of Tenerife, Barranca Nueva, Calamar, Remolino and other facts that have been important for the population consolidation of the studied region, are addressed in this publication in a precise and documented manner. The text examines some facts that have made this subregion one of the poorest in the Caribbean region, in northern Colombia.
