Description in English: The novel by the Caribbean writer Jamaica Kincaid, A Small Place, has given us a pretext for this compilation. The small places to which we refer are not geographical, although they have a given territory, but political; places from which subjectivity/intersubjectivity, a historical—not substantialist—identity, is created. In these places, the historical background of memory acts in the present as a teaching element, as a tool for liberation, as the possibility of thinking of ways of existing other than the ones coloniality tries to impose in its apparently overwhelming unfolding: who are we? From where do we speak? Thus, places lead the way to reflection from the coordinates Fanon outlined when he thought about the damned of the Earth. In an attempt to establish symmetrical dialogue from small places or, as others would say, the global south, this book features selected Latino (and) American authors who ponder over race, class, discrimination, violence, exclusion, or the ways of thinking or structuring our knowledge. All the participating authors have contributed from their small places to shaping critical thinking through their writings and daily practice.
