Description in English: The Caribbean played a crucial role in generating the modern world and in the development of capitalism, an aspect that led some of its urban centers to serve as engines of the economy, places of connectivity and creativity in the context of the globalization process happening during the second half of the 18th century and a large part of the 19th, causing transformations of various kinds in the region's cities and towns, both demographically, functionally and on the landscape.This work, executed within the framework of the "Conneccaribbean project" directed by Dr. Consuelo Naranjo Orovio from the CSIC Institute of History (Spain), brings together the results of different investigations analyzing the impact cities and towns of the Caribbean had on conflicts maintained by different powers in the region, the accelerated development of the plantation economy, the Atlantic slave trade, the early application and reformulation of Enlightenment ideas, or revolutionary processes like the one in Haiti.View description in English
